Failure: Our Common Bond
Failure is something I have an intimate relationship with; hell I’d say the thing I’m most successful at is failure. That isn’t necessarily a good thing, because, like many relationships, my love of failure isn’t always healthy. How is your relationship with failure?
Camas: Facing the Homelessness Problem
Homelessness is an issue that can affect every single one of us in some form or fashion in 2022. Homelessness has become a very hot-button issue for governments and citizens alike as both seek to find some sort of solution to a problem that continues to fester in society.
America’s Microcosm: The County Fair
If we pull our noses out of the air, phones and zeitgeist, we see the incredible creativity, hard work, ingenuity, intelligence, cohesion (shoutout to the fair staff that pulls any fair off) of the great people that are fair participants, all so we, the fair attendees, can enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Adult Bullies
As adults though, bullying can be substantially different than dealing with a kid on the playground taunting us or making fun of our shoes. Adult bullying can have profound impacts on our mental health, especially if it’s from a loved one or someone we believed we could trust. I think many of us look at bullying like I described above but obviously it’s much, much different as an adult because our interactions with others are quite a bit different than as a kid. How bullying manifests itself in adulthood can look many different ways, especially with the advent of social media and cyberbullying.
Men and Emotion
As men, how do we get ourselves to a place that allows us to fully admit we need help? Many times us guys struggle to realize our own emotions. Some of us have been programmed to eat our emotions because they don’t matter, some of us have been programmed to show only one emotion, typically anger and still others don’t even know that we have emotions.
The Blind Eye of Addiction
The shame a family member may encounter because of addiction can cause us to fundamentally change who we are, or in the case of children, change them to the point they are unsure of their own self-identity. In society though, many of these battered souls hide their pain from the world because their fear of embarrassment stings like alcohol on a fresh cut.
Adult Children of Alcoholics and How It Changed My Life
Once I found Adult Children of Alcoholics I started to gain a sense of self and discover who I really am. This is the beginning of a video series I’m doing on ACOA and having a realistic and open discussion about it’s benefits.
Industrial Fear Machine
Each of us is engaged in a David vs Goliath fight on a daily basis for control of our own brains and I’d venture to say most of us don’t even know it. As parents, this battle is even more important because our kids don’t stand a chance of understanding the forces working against them.
