The shame a family member may encounter because of addiction can cause us to fundamentally change who we are, or in the case of children, change them to the point they are unsure of their own self-identity. In society though, many of these battered souls hide their pain from the world because their fear of embarrassment stings like alcohol on a fresh cut.

Once I found Adult Children of Alcoholics I started to gain a sense of self and discover who I really am. This is the beginning of a video series I’m doing on ACOA and having a realistic and open discussion about it’s benefits.
